There are a variety of card scanners on the market today including Business card, Driver’s License scanners, wedge readers and a group of hand held scanners. One should not confuse point-of-sale (POS) scanners with the traditional scanners used in the photo ID and Time and Attendance marketplace as they have totally different functions. This is not to say that a POS scanner can not be adopted into an ID card system as we do it all the time. The key to selecting a card scanner that will fit your application is the software the scanner will be inputting data into. As an example if you have a Visitor Management system a Business card or Driver’s License scanner may be a practical way to populate your database and the same holds true for data entry into your photo ID system. The traditional Wedge reader may be used to log on to a computer or read a barcode or magnetic stripe to gain information about a card holder.
With the technology today we see the combo-readers becoming more prevalent. As shown on our web site we have combo Wedge readers for barcodes and magnetic stripe cards. The same holds true for Driver License scanners and Business card readers. In general make sure that the software you are connecting to have the proper interfaces to your selected scanner.

Looking for a Visitor Management System?
Traditionally, visitors to a company have signed into a logbook by scribbling their name, company, who they are visiting and login time. This guest book log is then kept as a written document for history of visitors, when they visited and who they visited. If any questions arise regarding who a visitor was, where they came from or who they saw, countless hours are spent by the receptionist or security going line by line to recover an entry with hopes that all the data has been entered into the log.
With LEXID VMS, visitor registration is easy. Visitors scan their ID (business card or driver's license), all relevant information is captured in a database file, you can personalize your visitors badge with the visitors photograph (optional), the name of the person, persons or area being visited, the reason for the visit, and their arrival and departure times. Once the information is captured a visitors badge is produced. Reports are a then a click away.
